About Us

We are educators, administrators, and trades professionals who spent our careers in Virginia’s classrooms, schools, and job sites. We watched capable, motivated students earn real trade certifications — and then hit a wall we didn’t expect. Not a skills gap. Not a motivation gap. A tools gap.

Employers require tradespeople to show up on day one with their own professional equipment. For a family that’s already stretched, that cost can be the difference between a career that starts and one that doesn’t. We saw that problem up close, and we decided to do something about it.

We also decided to do it differently. We’d all seen enough nonprofits spend donor money on overhead, events, and salaries while the people they claimed to serve got what was left over. We weren’t interested in building that. VBCTF is all-volunteer, all in-kind, and built from the ground up to put donations directly into graduates’ hands — in the form of the tools they need to start working.

The founding board personally funded our startup costs and first grants. That was intentional. We wanted to prove the model before asking anyone else to believe in it.

They earned the skills. We provide the tools.
